Q & A
Q. 'In what year did you start your business? Tell us about your company history?
A. Started woodworking business in 1993 till injuries required lighter work.
Purchased laser engraver in 2011 to produce products using woodworking experience in design and functionality. As the engraving aspect in our business is relatively new it has taken our business on unexpected paths. You can expect new products to appear as I enjoy the challenges of new materials and to bring ideas to fruition.
Q. What type of business do you operate — what do you sell, or what services do you provide and to whom?
A. We are a retail and wholesale operation. Some of our designs and products are not available on our website as not to compete with our wholesale customers. We also have done custom work locally and would not object to a custom order from elsewhere. Much of our business has been in promotional products which started with the American Birkebeiner ,which is the largest cross country ski race in the U.S. This has led to orders from museums and businesses.
Q. What is the goal of your business at an ecological level, what are you trying to achieve?
A. Much of our goal for ecology, efficiency and sustainability has been achieved. We do have a long term goal of producing our own power as we have an opportunity for micro hydro from our property bordering a creek. The need for sustainability is heard loud and clear as I am a 10 year volunteer on community radio WOJB/ WOJB.org where the discussion of our situation and what we can do is regularly a hot topic. Also the station has made me even more aware of what I can do and where to go to get it done.
