We hope to see you soon in Wadi Rum.
We booked our stay in Wadi Rum with Khaled after all the great reviews on TripAdvisor, and it certainly lived up to all our expectations. Our tour was great - especially sandboarding and having our guide Ali cook us a wonderful picnic lunch in the shade of a canyon. Another highlight (and a must-do on your trip if you're decently fit) was our Burdah Arch climb. It was my first time going scrambling and the whole experience was incredibly exhilarating (also, kudos to Ali for guiding us to the top barefoot - that could not have been pleasant). The camp was lovely and our time was made extra special because we decided to stay in the cave located behind the main camp area. It was a wonderful set up - candles in paper bags lining the outer walls of the cave and carpets, mattresses and thick blankets making it super cozy. Khaled and Ali got a small fire going, made us some bedouin tea and even got the hookah started on my request. Khaled also let me use his tripod to take some great long-exposure pictures of the night sky. Sleeping under the stars and waking up to the gentle rays of the desert sun is not an experience to be missed, and choosing Khaled's Camp while in Wadi Rum is a no-brainer - don't think twice!
Q & A
Q. 'In what year did you start your business? Tell us about your company history?
A. My entire family has been involved in tourism for the past 17 years in Wadi Rum, as a Bedouin we have been born and raised in the desert and take great care to ensure visitors have always been welcome and are able to visit our homeland.
Q. What type of business do you operate — what do you sell, or what services do you provide and to whom?
A. We operate a small eco-camp in the desert as well as tours in the Wadi Rum Protected area National Park, we are not in the business of selling anything.
Q. What led you to work in this field?
A. This has been a family tradition, and business.
Q. What is the goal of your business at an ecological level, what are you trying to achieve?
A. We are looking to become a fully self sustainable camp to cater to tourists from around the world, while educating them about conservation of natural resources such as water, firewood, and more.
Q. What are your plans for the future of your company?
A. We are hoping to become entirely self sufficient from fossil fuels and will install solar panels, and a bio digesting toilet when able to do so in an effort to lower our impact on the environment. Also we work to recycle and reuse any materials to maintain the desert as we found it before the introduction of tourism.
